A little more about Compass to Care

Compass to Care, The Mike & Sandy Ernsdorff Childhood Cancer Foundation, is a non-profit organization established in 2010 with a mission to provide free non-emergency medical transportation(NEMT) to families battling cancer and facing financial hardships that need to get to doctor appointments and clinical trials. The organization was founded by a cancer survivor who understands first-hand how large of a factor transportation is and the financial burden that comes with it for families who have to travel for cancer treatments.

One of the most significant challenges that families with children facing cancer diagnoses face is accessing specialized medical care. Unfortunately, many families cannot afford the cost of travel and other expenses that come with medical treatments, which leads to missed appointments, delayed treatment, and ultimately worse outcomes. Compass to Care recognizes the immense pressure these families face and aims to reduce their financial burden and ensure that they can access the care they need.

The impact of Compass to Care's work is admirable, as they strive to remove transportation as a barrier to life-saving medical appointments for childhood cancer patients. The organization is based out of Chicago, IL, but helps families throughout the United States. To date, they have served over 250 families and are constantly raising funds to expand their help to even more families in need.

Through fundraising events and partnerships with corporations and the generosity of donors, Compass to Care has been able to raise awareness about their cause and provide financial assistance to families in need. Last year, SafeOpt was a proud sponsor of their gala, An Evening of Hope. The event was held in Chicago, and the proceeds raised went toward preventing missed cancer-related medical appointments and improving survival outcomes for children living in poverty. All proceeds from the event went towards Compass to Care's efforts toward supporting their mission.

The more funds raised, the more families Compass to Care is able to support. Every dollar raised helps to provide hope and support for families in need and helps to ensure that no child has to miss a critical medical appointment due to a lack of transportation.
